What's a pledge?

A pledge is a promise to give money to the church. In effect, you promise to give a certain amount of money to the First Unitarian Church of Hamilton during the upcoming calendar year.

Why should I pledge?

You may wonder: "Why should I pledge? Why can't I just put money in the offertory basket?"

Your pledge will allow us to know in advance how much funding to expect. It is an essential part of determining a realistic budget. Pledges allow us to plan for possibilities in the life of this church.

How much should I pledge?

Consider donating a small percentage of your annual income. Because all charitable donations to the church are tax deductible, the amount you donate actually costs you less than you may think. Here's how it works:

How do I pledge?

You may make a pledge at any time by contacting the Treasurer. The church usually conducts an annual Canvass Pledge Campaign in the fall of each year. During this period, the congregation is asked to make pledges for the upcoming calendar year. For more details about this, please see the Canvass Pledge Campaign section below.

How do I make a donation?

Cheques should be made out to:

You may give your cheque(s) to the Treasurer or you may mail your cheque(s) to the church, at the following address: First Unitarian Church of Hamilton, 170 Dundurn St. S. Hamilton, ON L8P 4K3

Canvass Pledge Campaign for 2010

A brochure with detailed information about the current Canvass Pledge Campaign, including information on church finances and activities, can be downloaded to your computer by clicking here: Pledge Campaign Brochure.

This year the Canvass Pledge Campaign will start on Sunday, October 18th. All Members, Adherents and regular participants in the church will receive campaign information by mail or email and are asked to complete a response form.

Response forms are available:

  • in the church foyer after the Pledge Sunday service (October 18th)
  • from the church office
  • on the Canvass Pledge Campaign bulletin board
  • at the Information Stand
  • online at Online Response Form or Written Response Form

Please complete and submit your response form by November 8. Completed response forms can be:

  • placed in the offertory basket on any Sunday between October 18 and November 8
  • brought to the church office
  • mailed to:
