We
are thrilled to share the news that our first ever
ministerial student Intern Minister will be Karen Fraser
Gitlitz from Vancouver. She will spend the majority of
next church year learning and growing in ministry
alongside us.
Karen comes to us with an impressive amount of
experience already! She is just finishing her Master of
Divinity degree at the
Vancouver
School of Theology, and has already worked as a Field
Education Student and Intern Minister in UU churches and
fellowships in Victoria,
Kelowna
and Kamloops B.C. She will be interning with us to gain
the experience of ministering to a vibrant and growing
mid-sized congregation.
She has also completed a Field Education unit with a
United Church
ministering in
Vancouver's
Downtown East Side, and has hospital chaplaincy
experience in both Vancouver and in Edmonton, where she
is spending this summer doing a supervised unit of
hospital chaplaincy and spiritual care.
She has been a member at large for Mainland BC on the
CUC Board and has served as liaison to the CUC Statement
of Principles Task Force, as well as serving as a Youth
Chaplain at several youth conferences.
Karen comes with both undergraduate and graduate degrees
in Art History as well as a lot of experience as a lay
person in her home congregation. She brings many gifts
and also wants to learn as much as she can from our
"Beloved Community."
We
believe that what we have to offer - as both teachers
and learners - is a great match for Karen.
Karen and her husband Paul (a folk musician) will be
moving to Hamilton in late August for Karen's Internship
which begins September 1st.
We
know that our church will enthusiastically welcome and
enjoy working with Karen in the year to come!
