Blank verse, free verse, sonnet, ode, limerick, rhyme or
ballad.
Anyway you look at it, poetry comes in many shapes and
sizes.
At the First Verse at First Unitarian poetry event on
Friday, June 9, anyone with a favourite poem they’d like
to read—their own or someone else’s—is welcome to take
to the stage and share it with the audience.
The evening promises to be a celebration of the art of
poetry with a variety of people sharing some of their
favourite verse—we are hoping you will be among them!
This is an open invitation to the whole community to get
up and read a favourite work of poetry—be it by
Shakespeare, your mother or yourself—in front of a
supportive audience.
Of course, you don’t have to read to come, but if you
want to, the stage is all yours. (Just sign up at coffee
hour after church over the next four Sundays.)
The event is a great way to share something that means a
lot to you. Maybe something that has touched your heart.
Or made you laugh. This is your chance to share it with
others.
Funds raised from this charity event will go to support
the work of the Albert
Schweitzer
Hospital in Haiti.
The poetry reading will be held at First
Unitarian
Church on Friday, June 9. Doors open at 7:30 with the
readings starting at 8 p.m. Wine and cheese/cash bar
available. Tickets are $10 and will be for sale during
coffee hour over the next few weeks and can be purchased
at the door.
